Voting TOP 8

Andrea MeyerANDREA  – „ANIMAL HEADS“
from Wunstorf, Germany // 38 // digital media designer

What has motivated you to join the lillestoff design competition?
A friend of mine told me about the competition and just said „Don’t you think you could try?“ So I did 🙂 I just started sewing but again and again I imagine a certain design, which I don’t find in the shops. Then I thought I could try myself. And now I am here, filling in this interview – couldn’t have been wrong thus!

Who or what inspired you when creating your design?
Well I can’t really tell you. It actually happened by accident!  I knew I wanted to create something with animals. And I like geometric forms and edges. That’s what it results from! The colors result from current preferences. And a little bit of „retro“ is never bad.

Your own design on organic fabric – what will you do with your winnings?
I will sew for my kids (I started sewing recently). And probably I’ll also give something away. Lots of my friends and family do sew.

ANJA  – „SKATER“
from Wermelskirchen, Germany // 36 // digital media designer // www.facebook.com/summlinger

What has motivated you to join the lillestoff design competition?
The one-time chance of course :-)! In my thoughts I often created my own fabric, but didn’t really do it in the end. When I saw the post on Facebook I knew this is my chance to spring into action!

Who or what inspired you when creating your design?
First of all: there are so many beautiful fabric designs and my own kids are the best inspiration. But – I am always searching for „cool“ designs for my son who is almost seven. I would love to sew more for him (at the moment my girls have an advantage). But in my opinion, lots of fabrics are too „cute“ for major boys. When I was a teen skating was absolutely famous. When the weather was good, we permanently met outside after school and the boys went skating. It is such a nice memory and came into my mind when searching for a proper motif.

Your own design on organic fabric – what will you do with your winnings?
Finally sew for my son! And one of my best friends (who also loves sewing) has three little boys, who become older and older….;-)!

ANNET – „SALAMANDER“
from Hilversum, the Netherlands // 35 // scientist, mother, hobby-designer // http://www.spoonflower.com/profiles/annets

What has motivated you to join the lillestoff design competition?
I am a hobby-designer. This competition is a great chance to show my designs. And my own design on organic fabric is my dream!

Who or what inspired you when creating your design?
This time my 5 years old son inspired me. He loves small animals and currently especially salamanders, chameleons and reptiles. He loves the jovial, big eyes and I tried to catch that when creating this design. It was fun to give these small green animals a character.

Your own design on organic fabric – what will you do with your winnings?
I will sew a shirt for my son and a dress for my daughter. And then probably something for my nephew, cousin and friends. But I will also keep something for my own. I am really happy (and I am proud) to be one of the 8 finalists of this competition!!!

Csilla BandiCSILLA – „DACKELSTREIFEN“
from Graz, Austria // graphic designer

What has motivated you to join the lillestoff design competition?
Designing fabrics for children would be my absolute favorite job! That is why taking part in this competition is an absolute must!

Who or what inspired you when creating your design?
I really like stripes for boys. But also funny animals. Thus combining both just made sense and a sausage dog is extremely „stripes-suitable“. Sausage dogs also have weird characters, I like that! My aunts sausage dog once attacked a horse – „brave like a sausage dog“ I’d say!

Your own design on organic fabric – what will you do with your winnings?
Unfortunately my sewing-skills are limited. But of course my own design motivates me to start properly! Fortunately I know some sewing-enthusiasts, who will certainly support me! I can’t wait to clothe my boys with „sausage dog stripes“! 😉

Deborah Hecht

DEBORAH „SEA YOU SOON“
from Aachen, Germany // communications designer

What has motivated you to join the lillestoff design competition?
As a communications designer, creating is an important element of my job: print media, online or fabric. Privately, I love working with fabrics, especially with screen printing. In my small textile screen printing factory I transform my two-dimensional drafts into three-dimensional sewing-projects. Thus I do not only create my own fabric designs, but also sew them up immediately. A very good friend of mine told me about this competition and I started working with pleasure. As I have only been designing fabric privately so far, being one of the TOP 8 is a special honor.

Who or what inspired you when creating your design?
Kids, with their imaginative talent to create objects and forms from simple things, is exactly the inspiration which inspired me to design „Sea you soon“. Simple paper boats or paper planes, which are made from one and the same item also arise from the same creative element.

Your own design on organic fabric – what will you do with your winnings?
As my closest friends also really love sewing, I will share my fabric with them and we will probably sew together now and then. Moreover I will sew something unique for my partner.
